A Deeper Understanding has joined forces with Call Confidential; a new helpline and reporting service for the construction industry that launches in November 2017.
They believe prevention and transparency are key for the wellbeing of the workforce and offer a confidential service that allows all stakeholders, including workers, to report issues impacting the workforce. This creates an early warning service that helps protect workers and allows the company to take early action, benefiting both the workforce and, ultimately, the company.
A Deeper Understanding will be offering guidance with their unique approach to mental health and wellbeing.
The recent article published https://www.shponline.co.uk/firms-combined-forces-new-approach-mental-health-management/ talks about the benefits of this collaboration between these two companies and how they can help with growing concerns of mental ill health within the workplace.

This short animation gives a great insight what happens when we’re triggered into unhelpful thinking.
We can be feeling ok the day is going well when we get the unexpected email, text, phone call, situation, circumstance or event.
Very quickly like a snow globe at Christmas that’s been shaken releasing all the snowflakes, this to happens to us when our thinking is triggered we are overwhelmed with unhelpful thoughts, these then create feelings of anxiety, stress, worry, tension, pressure, anger and uncertainty to name but a few, but if you can just see that the feelings are only being created by the unhelpful thinking the thoughts will begin to settle much like the snowflakes in the globe, once the thinking has settled and the mind becomes quite the solution will show itself and you will know how to respond rather than react.
The right response will always come with a good feeling.
Take time to watch this animation and enjoy.
A Deeper Understanding was invited on board the Amsterdam to participate in panel of experts put together by Ranstad, for their well received event – Mental Health: Helping Construction Workers Break down the walls.
We explained our approach and experience to this sensitive issue; exploring the differences between mental ill health and mental well health. We drove our key message home “by seeing beyond what we think we know we can create lasting change”.
Feedback from the event has been great and it’s wonderful to see how a simple shift in perception can make such a vast difference.
There was much interest in our two day training package introducing people to our principles.
Our two day package will improve:
- Stress Management
- Conflict Resolution
For more details on our packages please email: firstname.lastname@example.org
I was invited for an interview to discuss my experience of mental ill health and how working in construction contributed to that as part of the BBC radio 5 state of mind series.
It feels great to get our message out there and the feedback has been fantastic.
The book is available to buy on amazon.

The youtube shows how interlinked our level of consciousness is to everything we experience, feel and do. What might seem the right thing to do on a certain level of consciousness might proof totally wrong, ridiculous or embarrassing on another level of consciousness. Therefore, we sometimes reflect on situations and feel embarrassed or feel we acted wrongly or we just feel we should have acted differently.
As our level of consciousness increases, everything changes with it: Our thoughts, our feelings, the way we look at life, the way we perceive the people around us and even the way we perceive ourselves. Thus, depending on our level of consciousness we can experience the same situation in hundreds of ways and we act differently, according to our state of consciousness. A rise in consciousness truly is a magical experience: It helps us see things in a totally new light and assists us to make sense of situations that seemed painful, illogical or stressing before. With the rising of our consciousness new light is brought to the scene.
In the animation, this is shown wonderfully by all vessels rising with the consciousness boat on the tide. When consciousness is down, our thoughts appear more real to us and life in turn more threatening or more daunting. This is because we are looking from a lower level: We cannot see as much, when we are looking from down below, as we can when we are looking from a higher state of being. Imagine the boats in a pool, with the rim of the pool being either above you, so that you cannot see over it or the water having risen enough for you to see over the rim of the pool and realise the world is bigger than and very different from what you initially thought.
As our consciousness rises everything changes with it, nothing can stay the same.
After much thought this is my understanding of mental health it’s something we’re born with, it’s innate within us, it’s our natural ability to feel good. It’s an inbuilt resilience that no matter what life throws at us we’re able to deal with in a way that is hard to articulate.
It naturally arises within us and improves the quality of our lives if we just get out of the way.
I’ve come to this understanding after many years of being misdiagnosed depressed and labelled a problem, due to this misunderstanding of what mental health isn’t, I spent many years trying to fix or be fixed, either by taking antidepressants or trying many different therapeutic models, from 12 step programmes to primal therapy. I even wrote a book on stress management after my experience of spending years looking for a problem that didn’t exist. (Only in my thinking)
I feel there’s been a lot of focus on mental ill health – stress, anxiety insecurity and depression, all of these are a simple misunderstanding of how we innocently use our thinking against ourselves.
We are naturally mentally healthy it is only our thinking that says we’re not.
Once I uncovered this simple truth, I no longer self diagnose myself depressed because I have sad, anxious or insecure thoughts.
This insight has improved the quality of my life and how I experience it.
After many many years of believing there was a black dog, I can now see it was just an Illusion created by my own thinking. There isn’t a black dog and never was!
I believe we all have the ability to wake up from the illusion created by our own thinking and be free of the thoughts that are innocently being misdiagnosed as illnesses that need fixing or tablets etc etc.
As my understanding deepened of where mental health comes from, the chemicals seemed to settle themselves within me, I’m only sharing my truth and in no way am I telling people what to do. I only ask you don’t put contempt before investigation.
